The London & Middlesex branch is pleased to invite you to join us on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 10 am for our monthly hybrid event, with professional genealogist and speaker, Michelle Hamilton, who will be joining us in person.

A bit about our Speaker:

Michelle Hamilton is a Professor and former Director of Public History at Western University. Over the last fifteen years she has completed nineteen collaborative community projects with her graduate students. She is currently researching the historical interactions between London and Londoners with local Indigenous nations.

Synopsis:

Invited to partner with Vision SoHo Alliance, a consortium of six affordable housing organizations, Michelle Hamilton has led 30 students in researching the history of the SoHo* neighbourhood to curate an outdoor historical exhibit and multimedia website. This talk will tell the stories of St. David’s Ward, as it was originally named, including Indigenous and immigrant history, numerous factories, Victoria Hospital, and Western’s Faculty of Medicine, and highlight the sources and oral histories used. Hamilton will also discuss how this history will be preserved through the Vision SoHo project.

*SoHo refers to “South of Horton (Street)”

This is a hybrid meeting, so you may attend in person, or virtually – your choice. Registration is required for those planning to attend virtually. Attendance is free and open to all.
