The London & Middlesex branch is pleased to invite you to join us on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10 am for our monthly hybrid event, with professional genealogist and speaker, Dan Brock, who will be joining us in person.
A bit about our Speaker:
Dan Brock is a native of Norfolk County, where he grew up on a fourth-generation, family farm, which had been purchased as a Clergy Reserve. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, where he earned an Honours BA in philosophy and a Masters in history, and has resided in London since 1962.
Dan taught at the elementary, secondary and college and university levels for 42 years before retiring in 2003. He is the current Past President of The London & Middlesex Historical Society and past chair of the London and Middlesex Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. He is also a long-time member of the Irish Benevolent Society.
Dan is the author of a few hundred articles and several books, largely pertaining to the eastern part of what is now southwestern Ontario and the Maltese in North America and continues to do so, his latest book being Fragments from the Forks: London Ontario’s Legacy. Dan is also the founder and editor of the free, monthly, e-newsletter The Maltese Presence in North America, which has a current estimated worldwide readership of some 20,000.
Synopsis:
Like many others, Dan Brock has been fascinated by the story of ‘Little Johnny O’Connor’ the sole survivor of the Donnelly tragedy in Lucan, Ontario. In this presentation, Dan will provide some background on the O’Connor family and trace the parents of Johnny O’Connor, John O’Connor himself, and his siblings from the time of the murder of five members of the Donnelly family in Biddulph Township, in February 1880, until their deaths. In doing so, he will point out some of the secondary and primary resources researched and where these resources can be readily found.
This is a hybrid meeting, so you may attend in person, or virtually – your choice. Registration is required for those planning to attend virtually. Attendance is free and open to all.
