About this collection:

Over many years, Donald E. Read accumulated and transcribed 691 obituaries of individuals connected with the Parkhill area of Middlesex County (McGillivray, East Williams and West Williams Townships) and of their relatives in Michigan and elsewhere from the years 1854, 1886-2018. Mr. Read began a Centennial Project in 1967 researching the descendants of these pioneer immigrants of the 1849 migration from Scotland. His research included conducting interviews of elderly relatives who were grandchildren of the immigrants. Some still remembered the Gaelic learned in their childhood in the 1870s. Newspaper sources are given where known. Entries without newspaper references are likely sourced from Funeral Home websites. Mr. Read generously donated this collection on March 3, 2020, with the understanding that it be made accessible as a free resource. In creating an index for this collection, we have made note of those individuals who would have been the original early settlers. We thank Donald E. Read for this extensive collection and accept the donation on behalf of the London & Middlesex Branch of The Ontario Genealogical Society.
