Historic Middlesex Township Boundaries

The area covered by our branch encompasses the City of London and the historic Townships of Middlesex County as well as the First Nations. With the provincial restructuring, Middlesex County was broken into eight Municipalities and three First Nations.

Adelaide – Adelaide and Metcalfe Townships were amalgamated on January 1st, 2001 and renamed the Township of Adelaide Metcalfe.

Biddulph – On January 1st, 1863, Biddulph Township was detached from Huron County and became part of Middlesex County.  On January 1st, 1999, Biddulph Township became the Municipality of Lucan Biddulph.

Caradoc – In 2001 the merger of Caradoc Township and its main town, Strathroy, were combined to become the Municipality of Strathroy Caradoc. The Munsee-Delaware First Nation and Chippewas of the Thames First Nation are both located in historic Caradoc.

Delaware – On January 1st, 1998, Delaware Township, Lobo Township and London Township were combined to form Middlesex Centre.  NOTE: This does not include the City of London. The Oneida Nation of the Thames, was located in historic Delaware.

East Williams – Williams Township, was divided in 1860 to become East Williams and West Williams Townships. On January 1st, 2001, East Williams, West Williams, McGillivray Townships, along with the town of Parkhill (which was previously located in West Williams Township), were amalgamated to become known as present day Municipality of North Middlesex.

Ekfrid – On January 1st, 2001, the villages of Glencoe (formerly in Ekfrid) and Wardsville (formerly in Mosa), and the historic townships of Ekfrid and Mosa were combined to form the current Municipality of Southwest Middlesex.

Lobo – On January 1st, 1998, Delaware Township, Lobo Township and London Township were combined to form Middlesex Centre.  NOTE: This does not include the City of London.

London Township – On January 1st, 1998, Delaware Township, Lobo Township and London Township were combined to form Middlesex Centre.  NOTE: This does not include the City of London.

McGillivray – On January 1st, 1863, McGillivray Township was detached from Huron County and became part of Middlesex County. On January 1st, 2001, East Williams, West Williams, McGillivray Townships, along with the town of Parkhill (which was previously located in the historic West Williams Township), were amalgamated to become known as present day Municipality of North Middlesex.

Metcalfe – Adelaide and Metcalfe Townships were amalgamated on January 1st, 2001 and renamed the Township of Adelaide Metcalfe.

Mosa – On January 1st, 2001, the villages of Glencoe (formerly in Ekfrid) and Wardsville (formerly in Mosa), and the historic townships of Ekfrid and Mosa were combined to form the current Municipality of Southwest Middlesex.    Newbury is a village in historic Mosa, but is now in its own Municipality, surrounded by Southwest Middlesex.

North Dorchester – The township of Dorchester was divided in 1851 with North Dorchester becoming part of Middlesex County and South Dorchester joining Elgin County.  On January 1st, 2001, North Dorchester and West Nissouri became the Municipality of Thames Centre.

West Nissouri – The township of Nissouri was separated prior to 1851 with West Nissouri being attached to Middlesex County and East Nissouri to Oxford County.  On January 1st, 2001, North Dorchester and West Nissouri became the Municipality of Thames Centre.

West Williams – Williams Township, was divided in 1860 to become East Williams and West Williams Townships. On January 1st, 2001, East Williams, West Williams, McGillivray Townships, along with the town of Parkhill (which was previously located in West Williams Township), were amalgamated to become known as present day Municipality of North Middlesex.

Westminster – The historic township of Westminster became part of the City of London on January 1st, 1993.

Chippewas of the Thames First Nation – This First Nation, located in Muncey, is in historic Caradoc Township.

Munsee-Delaware First Nation – This First Nation is located in Muncey, in historic Caradoc Township .

Oneida Nation of the Thames – This Nation is located in historic Delaware Township .
