The London & Middlesex Branch invites you to join us on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 10 a.m. for a Zoom presentation with speaker, Sarah Coates.

Synopsis:

Old family photographs are fascinating and can be explored in different ways. Join Sarah Coates as she examines one aspect of these photographs – women’s clothing. We will take a look at some of the common styles seen in Canada using examples from North America and Western Europe (1880-1910). Although they cannot tell us everything, learning about these styles and silhouettes can be helpful to gain a greater understanding of the images and the time period they were taken in.

About the speaker, Sarah Coates:

Sarah Coates, MA, has long been fascinated by historical fashions and the factors that influence their development. In 2013, she published the article “Identifying a Photograph’s Age Based on Women’s Fashion” in Families – Ontario Genealogy Society and completed her Masters paper exploring British women’s fashion from 1880-1883 in 2014. Sarah enjoys researching and recreating historical clothing from a variety of time periods.
